Plan of Work checklist
A weekly report is due 24 hours prior to our group meetings. The report has to be in PDF (1 slide per page) but should be created along the lines of the sample report below following the giudelines.

For slides, please use this template and either apply it to your slides or copy it into a *.ppt file. Use fronts Arial and Comic Sans MS for headings/title and the body of slides, respectively. Make sure to create each bullet within the same, default text box of the body. Additional text boxes are strongly discouraged. You can check out some more NCSU CSC graphics art if needed.
For posters, please use this sample poster as a starting point; ask Carol Allen to get it printed (we previously use Kinko's or Imagers for printing).
Thesis documents are written in Latex in my group. There are official NCSU thesis templates for Latex (among others).
How to generate a long pub/private key pair (for ARC cluster etc.):
- ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096
Press ENTER on all questions to just take the defaults!!!
You should use the browsable GIT repository for all our projects (restricted to NCSU domain, use VPN or substitute the IP number of arcb when off campus).
- If you don't have git access yet, email me. I'll set it up for you to work from ARC as well as from the laptop/desktop that you use to access ARC (where you 4096 rsa key is installed).
- Use the testing repo to learn how to use git. Use your own MY-UNITY-ID/papers repos for your real work once you're familiar with git.
- Before you start, issue ("MY-UNITY-ID/Names should be properly replaced"):
  - git config --global push.default simple
  - git config --global user.email MY-UNITY-ID@ncsu.edu
  - git config --global user.name "First-Name Last-Name"
- Example 1: play around with the testing repo:
  - git clone --no-checkout git@arcb.csc.ncsu.edu:testing.git
  - cd testing
  - git config core.sparseCheckout true
  - echo MY-UNITY-ID >> .git/info/sparse-checkout
  - mkdir MY-UNITY-ID
  - git add MY-UNITY-ID
  - git commit MY-UNITY-ID
  - cd MY-UNITY-ID
  - create NEWFILE
  - git add NEWFILE
  - git commit NEWFILE
  - cd ..
  - git push #only now will changes go into repo!!!
  - rm -fr MY-UNITY-ID

- Example 2: modify my own repo shared only w/ advisor:

- Example 3: add a git-based SUBTREE to MY-UNITY-ID repo:

  - rm -fr .git
  - cd ..
  - IF you already committed (by mistake) before removing .git, then:
    - git rm --cached SUBTREE/.git
  - git add SUBTREE
  - git commit
  - git push #only now will changes go into repo!!!
- Example 4: checkout a directory in paper repo:
  - git clone --no-checkout git@arcb.csc.ncsu.edu:papers.git
  - cd papers
  - git config core.sparseCheckout true
  - echo SOME-DIRECTORY >> .git/info/sparse-checkout

  - cd SOME-DIRECTORY

- Example 7: checkout the legacy users repo (old cvs converted to git):

  - Notice: this repo is read-only, so you cannot push changes!
- Example 8: revert pushed changes
  - git revert COMMIT-ID

- Example 9: revert non-pushed changes
  - git reset -- DIRECTORY-OR-FILE

- Example 10: remove subdirectory of a different git repo

- used to be CVS repository, please do NOT commit to cvs anymore, treat it as read-only!
How to use Office with Wine under Linux (Wine is incl. in most distributions)
Please use Powerpnt (preferred) or xfig to create graphics; and Excel (preferred), JGraph with it's documentation or gnuplot for creating charts and graphs. For LaTeX papers, generate eps (see below).
How to create LaTeX-compatible EPS under Windows/Crossover/Wine:
- Follow each of these steps exactly!!!
- Office App: Scale graphs to fill the entire chart area / page (stretch to top/left/right/bottom margins)
- Office App: File, Page Setup, Margins (ONLY top,left,header all set to 0), Chart set to Custom
- Office App: Print to File using Apple Color Laserwriter 12/600 or Wine Postscript Driver (install driver if not available): produce fn.ps
  Excel w/ Crossover bug:If you print to a file, it will always print into ~/tmp.ps (home directory) or tmp.ps (current directory).
- Linux: ps2epsi fn.ps
  RedHat 9 bug: Please overwrite your /usr/bin/ps2epsi with this file.
- Linux: mv fn.epsi fn.eps
- Include fn.eps in LaTeX as follows:
  - If epsi in portrait mode:
```
\centerline{\psfig{figure=lookahead.eps, width=\columnwidth}}
```
  - If epsi in landscape mode (Notice: angle BEFORE width):
```
\centerline{\psfig{figure=lookahead.eps, angle=-90, width=\columnwidth}}
```
  - Alternatively to psfig, you can also use
```
\includegraphics[width=\columnwidth]{lookahead.eps}
```
    which, besides EPS, also supports PDF and JPG includes if pdflatex is used instead of latex.
- If this does not work, then you probably did not use a postscript driver for printing, and you're on your own. You can still try this instead of ps2epsi:
  
  Linux: eps2eps fn.ps fn.eps
  
  This will remove "Gnu Ghostscript" pop-up windows and may help to generate PDF later.
